Mariana Villarreal is a server at a Hooters in Georgia who has just accomplished something so selfless, so loving, and just absolutely amazing. Don Thomas, a regular customer at that particular Hooters, had just lost both of his kidneys to cancer and was forced onto a waiting list. However, when Mariana found out about this, she offered Don her own kidney. It almost sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it’s 100% true and amazing. Mariana had just loser her own grandmother to kidney loss and because she wasn’t able to do anything for her, something just ticked with her when she discovered Don had lost his kidneys. Mariana said,

“I wasn’t able to do anything for my grandma. If Don can live two more years, happy as he’s ever been, that’s fine with me. That’s not up to me. I did my part, now it’s God’s turn to keep him alive.”

Don admitted that he wasn’t too familiar with Mariana, although now they will be more than just customer and waitress, there will always be a bond between them.

“Mariana had only been here a short time. I just barely knew her when she made the offer.”

Mariana said that it was easy for her. She had two kidneys yet only needed one of them. So she simply asked Don if he wanted one of hers. The gift of life is so special and we thank Mariana from all of our hearts for her dedication and willingness to help. They had the surgery on Friday morning and the doctors said that they are both recovering perfectly.

“You can live your whole life with one just kidney,” Dr. Harrison Pollinger, one of the program directors of the Piedmont Transplant Institute, said, “You only need one kidney for normal kidney function.”

You rock, Mariana Villarreal! A true hero and truly Christlike. What do you guys think about this amazing story? 🙂
