Jennifer Lawrence opens up about feminism on Bazaar magazine!

Jennifer Lawrence has taken the cover of Harper’s Bazaar magazine for the 2016 May issue. The 25-year-old beauty opened up about feminism, politics and her personality.

Recently, there was quite a mix of negative and positive reaction to her “pay equality essay,” and she didn’t mind opening up to the magazine about the reaction:

“I had no idea it was going to blow up like that. And I obviously only absorbed the negative. I didn’t pay attention to the positive feedback. My parents get really upset. They do not like me speaking out about anything political because it’s hard to see your kid take criticism. But, really, people who criticized it are people who think women should not be paid the same as men. Jennifer Lawrence on Bazzar magazineSo I don’t really care what those people think…I try not to be too sensitive to the ‘poor rich girl’ jokes. I was saying my reality is absolutely fabulous, but it is not the reality of a lot of women in America. That’s what I’m talking about.”

And when it comes to feminism, she can’t quite understand why it’s such a ‘scary’ word to people.

(And nor can I? What’s so wrong with have equal pay, as long as the work ethic is there and it’s not just a ‘hey she’s a female, we have to pay her the same,’ situation. I think it’s quite fair. Feminism shouldn’t be such a frightening word and a lot of people think feminists are ‘too intense,’ but I guess that depends on how strong you are in your belief).

Jennifer Lawrence opened up about feminism saying:

“I don’t know why that word is so scary to people; it shouldn’t be, because it just means equality. If we are moving forward in a society, you are feeling stronger as a woman, and you want to be taken more seriously. You don’t have to take away the wonderful traits that come with being a woman: We are sensitive. We are pleasers. We’re empathetic. All those things that can keep you from asking for what you want or making mistakes.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself girl, awesome interview. If you’re interested in reading more about Jennifer Lawrence you can check out the magazines website [ HERE ].
