The Vampire Diaries has been going strong for about 7-years on CW but there are some big changes coming your way. And we know that some of you might not take to this news but it’s actually a bit exciting and every good thing has to come to an end eventually, right?

Well, it’s been announced that the eighth season of the show will go on but it’s replacement has been chosen (dun, dun, duuuun). Reports from news outlet Deadline have said that CW ordered a new adaptation of the 1987 “The Lost Boys.” And the best part about the whole ordeal? It’s being adapted by the one, the only “Veronica Mars,” creator Rob Thomas!

Rob Thomas is known for some of the best shows and movies out there including:

Veronica Mars
Party Down
Big Shots
Good Behavior
Drive Me Crazy
Fortune Cookie
Dawson’s Creek

Goodness, what an amazing list (my favorites were iZombie, Veronica Mars, 90210 and Dawson’s Creek) even though he was only a part of two episodes. Still, amazing to know he has so much expierence and creativity—and I say this because he’ snot just looking to ‘recreate,’ this in an old fashion manner, no. Rob wants to make this adaptation CW’s first anthology series. That means that every season will be taking place in a different decade.

It has not been announced as of now if the films original stars Corey Feldman and Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz will be involved but a lot of fans are hoping that they’ll get in on the action.
